Hope Alive Uganda is a non-governmental organization formed by the community in 2005. It was officially registered as a CBO in 2008 and in 2009, the process to register the organization as NGO will be completed.
Hope Alive Uganda was formed to support orphans and needy children, because it found that 75 % of the children are unable to go to school. These children are most of the time unable to go to school due to the death of their parents or guardians who have left them without means of survival. Most of them have died of HIV/AIDS. Despite efforts by the government to enable everybody to access educatino through introducing Universal Primary Education (UPE), some children can't continue their education. This is because they can't afford to pay their schoolfees, schooluniforms and schoolmaterials and that is why many pupils drop out of school. The situation is the same at secondary school level.
Hope Alive Uganda registered 300 orphans and needy children and tries to provide them with necessary assistance. The percentage of girls is higher than boys. Its first objective is to support the orphans and needy children so that they can get an education and to find ways and means to meet their spiritual, physical and social needs. It also seeks to address the problems of girls in order to see that girls are getting the same opportunities as boys. Hope Alive Uganda tries to work hand in hand with other organizations to achieve its goals.
Goals:
- The building of the school
- Teaching about HIV/AIDS prevention in both primary and secondary schools and HIV/AIDS counseling
- Provide health care to the orphans and needy
- Sponsorship for school fees, schoolmaterials, school uniforms etc.
- Establishing projects and activities the generate income (chicken/goats project, empowering women)
