GGNET/DaAr ran a campaign in the Netherlands in 2009-2010 concerning water. The funds raised through their campaign were donated to Hope Alive Uganda. Together with GGNET/DaAr Hope Alive Uganda agreed to spend these funds on a borehole for the community. However, along with the funds for a borehole, GGNET/DaAr donated the funds to run a water campaign to Hope Alive Uganda.
The water campaign donated by GGNET/DaAr was run in October 2009. The community was invited to attend this campaign and share their thoughts about the building of the borehole and maintaining the borehole. Apart from that, the community was taught about the importance of safe drinking water, hygiene, the hygienice use of latrines.
However, more support to be able to build the borehole was needed. In the end, both Impulsis and Simavi supported Hope Alive Uganda to be able to build the borehole in Bukyatifu.
In August 2010, Hope Alive Uganda installed a water comittee which will be responsible for contacts with Hope Alive Uganda and the community and monitoring the proper use and maintainance of the borehole. The names of the people that are in the water comittee can be found here.
The borehole was completed in March 2011 and a second water campaign was held in July 2011 to teach the community once more about the importance of safe drinking water and hygiene. Thanks to GGNET/DaAr, Impulsis and Simavi, women and children in Bukyatifu have access to water close at home, which means they don't have to walk miles to the nearest borehole anymore and which contributes to the good health and healthy conditions of people.
Hope Alive Uganda has closed this project. The community and local leaders are now responsible for handling and maintaining the borehole well. Hope Alive Uganda will remain in touch with the community through other projects and thus, will know how the borehole will be handled and maintained.
