On Saturday 15th January 2011, a new part of the Cycling out of poverty program was launched in Kisozi: Bike4work. Women can purchase a bike with Hope Alive Uganda on loan and pay back their loan in installments. The women can use their bike to transport goods to markets or shops in bigger villages or towns nearby. In this way, women can generate income or improve their circumstances with the help of their bike. The women, who do most of the hard labour on their land and in their gardens, can also use the bike to transport tools to their land or garden, instead of having to carry the heavy tools on their head or back. As women are the backbone of their families, Hope Alive Uganda wants to honour and empower women to participate in this project, although naturally it can uplift the whole family.
