Hope Alive study centre: education to empower the community |
|
Hope Alive study centre is one of HAU activities aimed at empowering the community. Lack of education is one of the most dangerous causes of extreme poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa.
"The great aim of education is not knowledge but action".
In an attempt to meet the Millennium Development Goal Two (MDG2) of education for all, HAU is working on putting up a study centre where students can participate in training programs and will even have the chance to become independent and earn their living by working in income generating projects following the training they received. Trainings such as tailoring, carpentry, ICT, catering, bee keeping, crafts, plumbing etc. will be offerend. Hope Alive Uganda aims to start with 3 proper classrooms on Hope Alive Uganda's own piece of land in Jinja district, which will enable students to receive education in an attractive and solid environment, rather than following a training in projects that are scattered and in buildings that don't meet educational standards. In this environment, education is combined with work and generating income. For example, students participating in a tailoring project, will receive a training, after which they will earn their income by working in the tailoring studio and selling their products from this tailoring studio. This also applies in the same way to catering: students will receive a training first and will be able to earn a living by selling products to hungry customers.
Qualified teachers run and manage the school activities and the performance of the students.
