Hope Alive Uganda wishes to empower women to strengthen the women's positions and improve the circumstances of needy women, widows and women that are HIV/AIDS infected.
Hope Alive Uganda started 2 projects for women at the beginning of 2010:
A tailoring project for women.
Women are trained to use sewing machines and a small business is started with them. The women will make clothes, school uniforms, reusable pads, sheets, blankets curtains etc. and they will repair clothes. By having the women make school uniforms, the women help Hope Alive Uganda as an organization as well. The aim is that the women will be able to earn a salary and thus improve their lives and the lives of their children. In April, the tailoring project will start with a group of 10 women. Those women will be Scovia Nakiranda, Jesca Namukasa, Jesca Nabirye, Mirabu Kawudha, Jenipher Nangobi, Edith Kuya , Mirabu Mukodha, Rehema Nabutona, Rebecca Mukodha, Agasa Nairuba.
An arts/crafts project.
At the start of the new year, 2010, Hope Alive Uganda started the crafts project with 5 women: Esther from Jinja and Judith Driciru, Apio Yuruda, Florence Nangobi and Suzan Babirye from Kisozi. All 5 women are involved in making Ugandan paper beads and necklaces. Judith is also involved in making other crafts. At the start of 2010. a trainer instructed the women how to make paper beads. The 5 women make beautiful Ugandan artwork. People interested in supporting the women by purchasing one of their orignial pieces of art can contact Hope Alive Uganda.
