Early 2010, Hope Alive Uganda was able to start an income generating chicken project in Kisozi, thanks to funds raised with the 1 % club in the Netherlands.

The purpose of the project was to help women and men generate income through selling eggs at the market and to shops and also generate income to sustain projects run by Hope Alive Uganda. Hope Alive Uganda started with around 600 chicken. The young chicken were kept inside a brooder the first weeks and moved to two locations in Kisozi later on, close to the office of Hope Alive Uganda. Isiima Ngobi, a motivated youngster from Bukyatifu was in charge of running the chicken project day to day. Around August 2010, the chicken had grown big enough and started laying eggs which were succesfully sold to shops in Kisozi and at the market. However, around October 2010, disaster struck when a number of chicken at one location fell ill and died shortly afterwards. Hope Alive Uganda feared the worst as more and more chicken started getting the same symptoms. In November, the chicken project came to an end when all chicken were lost.
