Hope Alive Uganda's Cattle and Agriculture project is an income generating project for boys aged 16 to 20. Boys are offered a training program by professionals. Breeding cows and goats, selling milk, contacts with wholesalers, manuring land, growing and selling vegetables, bananas, maize and pineapples, improving social skills are all aspects of this project which is aimed at empowering boys balancing on the edge of crime due to lack of education, unemployment and chances. Hope Alive Uganda has started initiating this project in January 2011 by starting the search for suitable breeds and discussing in length with a professional vet and an expert in the field, Patrick Mugaya, how to set up good structures, paddocks and which vegetables and fruit are suitable to grow alongside the rearing of cattle. At present, March 2012, the boy's quarters where the boys participating in this project will reside are finished, stables for the cattle are ready and bananas, vegetables, maize and pineapples are planted. This is a project in progress.
